The Indian with Smart TV is market in a roll with new entrants, and the latest in the list is Nokia Smart TV from Flipkart and Nokia. Recently, we introduced Motorola to the Indian market with a range of smart TVs in the television segment. The smartphone maker did not launch these TVs alone, instead it formed a strategic partnership with Flipkart, just like Nokia.
The Nokia Smart TV comes in a screen size of 55 inches, and is priced at Rs 41,999. It will go on sale on December 10 at 12:00 pm via Flipkart. The company is also offering full security of up to 3 years on TV with an additional payment of just Rs 999.
In addition, as part of the launch offer, consumers will be able to get 10 percent instant discount on paying upfront (not valid on COD) with any card of Net Banking. Today, at the India launch event, I got a chance to experience this Nokia Smart TV, and here is my first impression.
Nokia Smart TV: First Look and Experience
For now, Flipkart has only launched a 55-inch model of Nokia-branded Smart TV in India. It features a very clean and clean design with slim bezels and a fixed soundbar by JBL.
The 24W speakers also get some tweeters inside the soundbar, which according to the company are good enough for Indian homes. In my testing, I also found that it is good enough for any kind of room.
Coming to the display, the maximum brightness of a 55-inch 4K UHD screen can go up to 400 nits. The company is using the ADS (advanced plane-to-line switching) panel being manufactured by Beijing-based manufacturer BOE.
In my limited time, I could only stream content online on YouTube and Netflix to check display quality, which I felt was fine. In terms of software, it is similar to other TVs on Flipkart which you have MarQ and Motorola. The company also says that it supports HDR for Netflix, which we’ll examine soon in our full review.
Nokia Smart TV: specification and Android TV platform
Nokia Smart TV packs a quad-core processor and 2.25 GB RAM. For apps, there is 16GB of internal storage, which is sufficient for the TV apps you usually use for content. In terms of display, it features a 55-inch 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) with ADS panel at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. In addition, it supports Dolby Vision with intelligent dimming and wide color gamut.
Like most smart TVs these days, the Nokia Smart TV also runs on the Android 9 TV platform with support from the Google Play store. There is onboard Netflix support, and you will also be able to access it with just one click from the Netflix hotkey on the remote.
The remote is very standard, as seen above as well. It also has Netflix, YouTube and Google Assistant buttons with number keys and more. I tried voice search, and it worked perfectly fine during my experience.
Initial impact
At its price of Rs 41,999, the Nokia Smart TV is against the currently popular big screen TVs from brands such as Xiaomi, Vu and Motorola. These brands also operate in the same price segment as the Nokia Smart TV. In its brief time, I could barely test the TV features, but considering it running the Android 9 TV platform, it should work fine.
Regarding audio output and quality, the experience was also decent. He said, you should wait for our full review, which will come out soon. For now, I think Flipkart and Nokia’s new 55-inch 4K UHD television may be an option for consumers wanting to buy big screen televisions in India.
