Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 A reasonable convertible

Dell launched its latest Inspiron line-up in India in September 2019. The ultra-light laptop line-up landed in India a few weeks after the global launch. The line-up included Inspiron 13, 15, and 17. There are two things mentioned about this laptop which include convertible, 2-in-1 factor and processor. The Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 is one of the first laptops to bring a 10-generation Intel processor to market.

Given that it is an ultra-light laptop, users will get a less power-hungry U series of Intel processors. Interested buyers can get two different variants for the Inspiron 13 7000.

The base model comes with the Intel i5-10201U and the top of the line model is the Intel i7-10510U. The company has started the laptop price from Rs 90,230. We are reviewing the Intel i5 model, which takes on other premium laptops from the likes of Asus, Lenovo, HP and others.

Bleeding edge design and solid quality

Taking a closer look at the design, Dell has opted for a reasonably modern look. Like most new laptop designs, the Inspiron 13 7000 has a 3-way narrow display. The company has also used aluminum for the chassis which makes it very solid. The chassis is not flex and everything is built quite well.

However, something that modernly pushes the edge of bleeding is active pen storage. The company has a place in the hinge to store the pens. This design is similar to what we have seen in the recently launched Surface Pro X.

However, the Dell Inspiron only shares the design with the Surface Pro X as it does not provide active pen charging. Upon inspecting the device, we find two lower-firing speakers, one below the air vent and the other in the hinge area. The laptop comes with a power button on the keyboard, with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

The screen can be folded back to convert the laptop into a portable tablet. However, the device is slightly heavier at 1.4kg for replacement of portable tablets. Therefore, users can use the folding orientation to place the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 on a table or flat surface.

Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 Performance

The Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 laptop flies through day-to-day use without any problems. The 10th-generation Intel i5 chip shines in the casual use department. I did not experience any slowness in terms of performance. The laptop easily goes through 12-15 tabs on Microsoft Edge Beta, multiple word files, light image editing, and more.

It is ideal for my work which includes excessive web-browsing, 3.000 words every day, and image editing. Form-factor versatility allows me to convert the device into a media viewing hub after working for multimedia.

The daily performance makes it ideal for a handful of students or working professionals. If you are looking for something to handle intensive tasks, then not a machine that you should consider. These tasks include video editing, graphics work, coding or gaming. The machine can run fairly old games like Borderlands 2, but you shouldn’t expect anything new from afar.

The Inspiron 13 7000 features stereo speakers and integrated dual-array microphones for audio. Stereo speakers provide impressive sound volume and decent sound stage. The speakers have some large surface area. Which put them in trouble.

Moving to the display section, the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 features a 13.3-inch display with FHD resolution. The display offers crisp, somewhat accurate color reproduction. However, the display is quite reflective in nature and working directly against a bright source of light can be a problem. The peak brightness may be less visible to some users, but is subject to user preference.
